Custom Whitening Trays

Whitening gels like the 3M White & Brite Tooth Whitening System are applied by wearing custom fitted mouth trays. We will take impressions of your upper and lower teeth to make these custom trays, which help insure that the trays fit properly. Tray systems available in drug stores may not fit as well. Ill fitting trays can lead to gum irritation.

How soon will I see results?

Many people see an improvement after just a few days of tooth whitening. The treatment plan and strength of whitening gel provided is based on the condition of your teeth when you begin. The goal is to provide the fastest results possible. With periodic touch-up applications and regular dental hygiene visits, your whiter, brighter smile can last for a long time.

Instructions

  1. Brush and floss your teeth before each application of White & BriteTM Tooth Whitening Gel.
  2. Snap cap off of dispensing tip by twisting and bending slightly. Each syringe has 6 calibration lines. Each line represents one tray application. Apply a small amount of White & Brite Tooth Whitening Gel in the face-side of each tooth space.
  3. Place the cap back on the end of the dispensing tip and snap it in place. This protects the White & Brite Tooth Whitening Gel from exposure and maintains shelf life.
  4. Place your custom tray over your moistened teeth. Do not squeeze the tray. Allow any excess gel to escape naturally and remove from your gums using a toothbrush or tissue.
  5. Most whitening occurs during the first hour of each application. Wear your custom tray once or twice each day for 1-2 hours per application or as recommended by your dentist. Your dentist can advise you if a third daily application is appropriate for your situation.
  6. Upon completion of each application, remove your custom tray and rinse it with water. Rinse or brush your teeth to remove any excess whitening gel.
  7. Continue using White & Brite Tooth Whitening Gel uninterrupted each day until all of your treatments have been completed or the desired results are achieved.

Sensitivity

Sensitivity can occur during and after the use of peroxide-based bleaching agents. Tooth sensitivity is particularly common with higher concentrations and longer contact time with the bleaching product. There is also occasional irritation of the gum tissues with the use of peroxide-based bleaching agents. Sensitivity of the teeth and gums is mainly temporary and stops after the bleaching treatment. However, the frequency and severity of tooth sensitivity can be affected by the techniques used, the quality of the bleaching product and a person's response to the bleaching materials and methods.

There are several products or techniques that are most often used to treat teeth sensitivity also known as dentin hypersensitivity:
  • Use a lower concentration of whitening product
  • Reduce the amount of tray bleaching wear time
  • Increase the time between individual bleaching treatments
  • Avoid whitening for an extended period
  • Use a toothpaste for tooth sensitivity
  • Gentle brushing with a soft-bristled brush, using lukewarm water
  • Change diet by avoiding hot or cold foods for a day or two after whitening
  • Use desensitizing agents 10-30 minutes prior and after each bleaching
  • Avoid excessive use of at home whitening treatments

Do's & Dont's

Do:
  • Wait at least one hour between treatments.
  • Store syringes in a cool, dry place. Refrigerate if possible.
  • Avoid citrus fruits and juices until your treatments have been completed, since they may cause sensitivity.
  • Reduce or eliminate consumption of coffee, tea, red wine, cola and tobacco, since they may contribute to tooth staining during (and after) your whitening treatment.
  • Brush and floss before and after each whitening treatment.
Don't:
  • Do not apply excess gel in your custom tray. This does not lead to quicker results and may cause sensitivity.
  • Do not eat, drink or smoke while wearing your custom tray.
  • Do not freeze White & Brite Tooth Whitening Gel syringes.
  • Do not expose White & Brite Tooth Whitening Gel syringes to excessive heat or prolonged periods of sunlight.
